On this approaching Memorial Day, when thoughts often turn to pool openings, beach retreats and extra time off from work or school, I’d like to give my thanks to all of our men and women in uniform.
The title of today’s blog, as you may recognize, is from the United States Declaration of Independence. I often wonder if our founders would have envisioned a world where our military is called to serve on such a regular basis. Of all the ways that citizens can serve their fellow citizens, the job of an active military person is untouchable in all of its implications. To put oneself in harm’s way; to protect those you’ll never meet; to suffer humiliation at worst, and indifference at best, for that service; there is no other job where these are daily occurrences.
We honor those that answer the call to keep us safe and protect us. Neither policy makers nor politicians, those that serve are merely doing their job.
